Victorian born; Alison Smith is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Sydney, Australia. Alison’s practice always begins with drawing which is the touchstone for her work.

With extensive research into themes of identity and face politics that range from the traditions of painting and drawing to automated facial recognition she works from personal experience, mediated images, and directly from life. Alison uses her work in portraiture as a vehicle to explore the complexities and ambiguities of the human face. Her works challenge perceptions surrounding the diversity of human experiences of identity giving the viewer space to consider how faces are presented to the world and what it means to be human.

Alison has recently completed her Master Of Fine Art majoring in Drawing at the National Art School in Sydney.

Alison is represented by .M Contemporary.
