Drawing
The foundation of Smith’s studio practice is drawing, and she returns to it, experimenting constantly. It is through her drawing that the process of seeing, and the act of making are brought together.
Her enduring focus on life drawing fosters a quest to understand the complexities of the human figure, now matured to a point where her distinct mark making is unmistakably her own visual language. Ideas and notions are also formed through her art process diary, which she uses every day and refers to continually. For Smith drawing becomes a generative space, allowing her to expand into a multi-disciplinary practice via painting and sculpture.
